Lesson 4- 3 life changing life lessons as a teen girl
Lesson 4- 3 life changing life lessons as a teen girl
1) Learn to let loose
One regret I have from my time in secondary school uk or middle/high school is that I wish id let myself have more fun with my friends and family and not been so rigid and academia focused
After all your only a teenager once. Its important to work hard, but don’t forget to enjoy these years because once its done you move on to a whole different environment like applying and preparing for university or jobs.
The best memories from school isnt just about getting good grades or winning awards but also the times you spend with your friends, laughing, exploring and chatting or time you spent with your family on the weekend.
Find a balance that works for you, noone on their deathbed ever regretted not having worked enough.
2)Progress isnt always a straight line
It’s a common misconception that your grades will increase steadily as your study methods get better or that you will become more productive or a better person day by day,but that’s not the way life works.
The best things take time and you can get discouraged when you think of the end goal and don’t see immediate progress so instead work towards smaller and more achievable goals, reflect on what went right and what went wrong and be patient with yourself and celebrate your little wins but at the same time don’t be complacent
.As the saying goes ”We underestimate what we can do in a year and overestimate what we can do in a year”so if you work at smaller and more realistic goals consistently this will be way more succesful.
Even if you cant outsmart, outwork or outthink your peers you can outlast or outgrow them by always showing up for yourself and learning from your setbacks as every setback is a comeback.
2)Invest in yourself,be proactive and develop habits
Your teenage years are the best time to explore new hobbies, invest in yourself and your future and be proactive about your growth.
There is no harm in satisfying your intellectual curiousity and deepening your awareness of the world aswell as developing soft skills and giving you an edge in the corporate world and even if they arent applicable they make your life have more purpose and meaning.
I would recommend something creative, something physical or something intellectual as they all have the capapcity to be relaxing and can be anything from journalling, learning a new language, doing calinsthetics to reading
.My favourite would be reading as there are so many genres theres bound to be something for you. Aswell as the fact it helps you both academically aswell as personally as it develops your vocabulary, comprehension aswell as your emotional intelligence as you see life through different characters lenses aswell as being stimulating for your imagination, rich in historical context but also relaxing.
.Don’t be afraid to start small as James Clear says in the book atomic habits “All big things come from small beginnings, the seed of every habit is a single tiny decision but as that decision is repeated a habit sprouts and grows”.
